Title:
Genre: Dark. No nice things are said.
Pairing: Only if you squint to the point no one can see your eyes.
Summary: Snape is watching Harry. He sees nothing good. Why does he keep watching?
Count: 100
Prompt: Watching Harry

I see Evans’s sister every time I look at Harry Potter; I never liked her face; downright ugly in hatred – because she was only muggle.

I hated her, for every nasty look that crossed her face, for every whisper into Lily’s ear that would transform Lily into the spitting image of her sister.

It was stranger to see familiarity without the fond memories of the sisters. Harry Potter, another Evans, yet he didn’t know Severus Snape.

How refreshing it was to see that look of disdain also on his face. So like his mother’s.

Hatred’s more familiar to me, anyway.

Interesting perspective. I never thought that maybe Snape also sees Petunia in Harry as well as Lily. I like this!

It meant to be a superposition of sorts. Lily was Severus's friend, Petunia never liked Snape at all, and Snape couldn't bear that the only thing left in the world of Lily was Harry, so he might have inadvertently acted to cultivate Harry's dislike b/c he couldn't bear to see what remained of Lily. (That's what that last line refers to). Then, when he had Harry's dislike, he noted how astoundingly like Petunia that face looked - because of the hatred. And in a way, it is still snarry, but very early on, when Harry's too young to know subtlety and Snape is too old not to know better.
